- What is titanium dioxide used for?
Titanium dioxide is a mineral that’s used as a white coloring in a variety of products, including sunscreens, cosmetics, paints, and plastics. The pigment grade is also known as titanium white, pigment white 6, or CI 77891; it’s the whitest and brightest of all known pigments.
- Is titanium dioxide safe for skin?
In lotions and creams (dermal exposure), it is not a risk for adverse health effects. However, when titanium dioxide is inhalable—as it may be when in powder form—it is considered a possible carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
- Why is titanium dioxide used in sunscreen?
Titanium dioxide is used in mineral-based sunscreens to help reflect and scatter UVA and UVB rays. Because titanium dioxide can help prevent sunburn and sun damage, SPF products with this ingredient can generally be used by all skin types looking to protect their skin from the sun.
- Does toothpaste contain titanium dioxide?
Titanium dioxide can serve several purposes in various oral care products. In some toothpastes, it is used in very small concentrations to make the color of toothpaste white, which for many consumers makes it more pleasing to use.
An anionic surfactant called alpha olefin sulphonate (AOS) is frequently used in the manufacturing of personal care and home cleaning goods. Alpha olefins and sulfur trioxide combine to produce it, which is then neutralized by an alkaline base like sodium hydroxide.
It is a great ingredient for shampoos, shower gels, and other personal care products because it is extremely soluble in water and has good foaming and wetting qualities. Additionally, it is a component of domestic cleaning products like dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, and all-purpose cleaners.
Chemical Nepal is one of the businesses in Nepal that manufactures AOS. For a variety of industries and applications, Chemical Nepal is a top producer and supplier of different chemicals, including surfactants.
It is typically regarded as safe to use in the suggested dosages. However, excessive exposure or ingestion can have a number of negative health impacts, such as gastrointestinal discomfort, skin irritation, and eye irritation. It is crucial to adhere to suggested policies and practices for the secure handling and application of AOS.
