Description
Synthetic Thickener is aqueous-based, and are high-molecular-weight polymers with an important acidic monomer. When a base is added, these monomers ionise and become viscous as required. This compound can make a liquid viscous without barely altering its other characteristics. It is very easy to use and simple to handle. Our provided Synthetic Thickener is frequently used in paints, inks, explosives, and cosmetics to thicken sauces, soups, and puddings without changing their flavour. This is very effective and economical to use.
A thickening agent or thickener is a substance which can increase the viscosity of a liquid without substantially changing its other properties. Edible thickeners are commonly used to thicken sauces, soups and puddings without altering their taste; thickeners are also used in paints, inks, explosives and cosmetics.
Thickeners may also improve the suspension of other ingredients or emulsions which increases the stability of the product. Thickening agents are often regulated as food additives and as cosmetics and personal hygiene product ingredients. Some thickening agents are gelling agents (gellants), forming a gel, dissolving in the liquid phase as a colloid mixture that forms a weakly cohesive internal structure. Others act as mechanical thixotropic additives with discrete particles adhering or interlocking to resist strain.
Thickening agents can also be used when a medical condition such as dysphagia causes difficulty in swallowing. Thickened liquids play a vital role in reducing risk of aspiration for dysphagia patients.
Many other food ingredients are used as thickeners, usually in the final stages of preparation of specific foods. These thickeners have a flavor and are not markedly stable, thus are not suitable for general use. However, they are very convenient and effective, and hence are widely used.
Different thickeners may be more or less suitable in a given application, due to differences in taste, clarity, and their responses to chemical and physical conditions. For example, for acidic foods, arrowroot is a better choice than cornstarch, which loses thickening potency in acidic mixtures. At (acidic) pH levels below 4.5, guar gum has sharply reduced aqueous solubility, thus also reducing its thickening capability. If the food is to be frozen, tapioca or arrowroot are preferable over cornstarch, which becomes spongy when frozen.
USES
- Cosmetics
- Paint and Printing Thickeners
- Soap
- How to make synthetic thickener?
A concentrated thickener composition is prepared by mixing together 39 parts Cittol 176, 22 parts Varsol #2, and 6 parts Adogen 570-S. After stirring for five minutes, 33 parts Carbopol 820 are added and stirred for about thirty minutes until the mixture is uniform.
- What is a synthetic thickener used for?
Synthetic thickeners are an essential component of cos-metic formulation, allowing not only for the regulation of product viscosity, but also for the improvement of rheological qualities such as stability, feel, and flow. They are frequently found in lotion and cream preparations.
- What are the advantages of synthetic thickeners?
They have a unique molecular structure that allows them to handle extreme temperatures better than conventional oils. When it’s hot, synthetic oil keeps its thickness and doesn’t thicken or break down as quickly as regular oil. This means that it is less likely to cause engine wear or damage in high temperatures.
- What is the method of thickener?
It is defined as a method of continuous dewatering of a dilute pulp, wherein a regular discharge of a thick pulp takes place which is of uniform density, concurrently with an overflow of clarified solution. The solids particle size range in thickeners is generally from 0.5 mm to a few microns.
- What is the chemical name for synthetic thickener?
Methyl methacrylate polymers are also used as thickeners, and fabrics printed with them have a good handle, wash fastness, and color yield.
